Activities in Dalsland
Here we have gathered some of the activities that attract our visitors to come here, with helpful information and links to help you plan and make the most of your visit.
Not Quite
Welcome to Not Quite, in the heart of the industrial town Fengersfors in northern Dalsland, a place and network for artists, craftsmen, and designers. In the old paper mill, conditions have been created for all kinds of creative work. Here you will find art halls, galleries, exhibition spaces, a café, and a shop. Not Quite has quickly become known as one of the region’s top destinations. The combination of high-quality art and crafts in the scenic Dalsland countryside, with great opportunities for coffee or lunch, has proven to be a winning concept.
For more information, visit Not Quite’s website.
Dalsland Canal
For 150 years, Dalsland Canal has served maritime needs. We have lock-passed boats from all over the world; schooners, steamboats, freighters, tugboats with timber rafts, passenger ships, motor and sailboats, and countless canoes. We can safely say that we are a classic among boaters.
Traveling on our canal is an adventure and a nature experience like no other. Here, you literally sail in drinking water. The nature is magical, and you come very close to wildlife. Mushrooms and berries are right around you. Many have tried to rank Dalsland Canal over the years. Some say it is Sweden’s most beautiful, while others claim it is one of Europe’s finest. Roger Pilkington, perhaps one of the greatest canal experts, even suggested it might be the world’s most beautiful canal. Whatever the case, we promise an extraordinary experience.
Passenger Boat
Enjoy the canal from a sun chair on the foredeck – if you don’t have your own boat or prefer a comfortable excursion, you can experience Dalsland Canal by passenger boat.
Four shipping companies serve the lake system during the sailing season, offering both scheduled tours and charter arrangements – throughout the entire lake system.
The canal is open for passenger boat traffic from May 1 – September 30 (in some cases even later into autumn).
Boats operate on a schedule during high season – see the websites below for schedules.

Cycling
Dalsland is perfect to experience from the bike saddle. There are plenty of small country roads and beautiful gravel paths winding through the landscape, with light traffic. Views and lakes are never far away, nor are flea markets, museums, cafés, and artist studios. Let the gravel roads in Dalsland connect everything as you wish or cycle on the official Dalsland Trail and Sweden Trail.
Dalsland is hilly and perhaps not the easiest part of Sweden for cycling. But don’t worry – the reward is never far away. Thanks to the varied landscape, beautiful views and refreshing lakes await around every bend.
If you’re looking for adrenaline and tougher cycling, Dalsland’s many gravel roads and forest trails offer perfect conditions. Mountain bikers rightly love Dalsland.

Paddling
Dalsland is Sweden’s lake-richest landscape. So what could be better than experiencing it from a kayak cockpit? The water is so clean and clear that you can often drink directly from the lake. Paddling Dalsland can feel like being in the wilderness, yet civilization is never far away. Dalsland’s famous waterway, Dalsland Canal, provides a great foundation for your paddling adventure. Fengers offers kayak and canoe rentals and has extensive paddling experience in the region.
Dalsland Canoe Marathon
The Dalsland Canoe Marathon (DKM) takes place every year in early August. DKM spans four lakes: Laxsjön, Svärdlång, Västra Silen, and Lelång. The first DKM was held in 2004. It is a 55 km canoe marathon for recreational to elite paddlers. It is a real challenge and a spectacular event. For more information, visit the Dalsland Canoe Marathon website.
